Hydrosols, or aromatic waters, are obtained, together with essential oils, by steam distillation. They contain a small amount of essential oil together with the water-soluble substances extracted from the plant during distillation; being much less concentrated than the essential oils they have a greater safety of use.

They can be used as

Food flavourings: added to herbal teas or other beverages, for flavoring sweet or salty dishes, taken orally diluted in water.

Cosmetics: facial spray, skin tonics, added to shampoos and creams.

Home fragrances: fragrance for environments and fabrics.
